Camu camu

 

A wonderful shrub that grows in the Amazon rainforest, the fruit and leaves are used for medicinal purposes. They are often used as immune stimulants, due to their high content of vitamin C.

Camu camu has exceptionally high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, that can help:

Liquorice

 

Liquorice is a herbal plant with root that's sweet in flavour, with many health benefits.  Its root is used as a powerful antifungal medicine, known for its strong anti-inflammatory, antibacterial effects and immune-boosting properties, due to glycyrrhizic acid.

Some of the health benefits of liquorice are:


 

  • Anti H. pylori effects (Helicopacter pylori).

  • Effective in treating oral diseases such as: gingivitis, candidiasis, oral ulcers, etc. 

  • Great for heart burn.

  • Helps to soothe gastrointestinal issues.

  • Repairs the lining and balance in the stomach. 

  • May be used to treat respiratory problems.

  • Can also have a positive effect on stress.


 

You can easily drink it as a tea, add to food, or simply take as a supplement.

However too much consumption can increase blood pressure, and lower potassium. So, please take extra care and always consult your health practitioner. 

Cranberries

 

Fresh cranberries are associated mainly with December festivities. However, they are a remarkable evergreen shrub that is a member of the heather family, similar to blueberries, bilberries, lingonberries. Cranberries contain a superb amount of antioxidant properties which include: High levels of vitamin C, E, K¹, manganese, and copper.

 

They have an assortment of medicinal properties that are known to:


 

  • Relieve symptoms of Diabetes 

  • Help with Cholesterol reduction 

  • Decrease stiffness in blood vessels 

  • Support the kidneys 

  • Lower the levels of inflammation in blood vessels


 

They contain unique phyto-nutrients, which help prevent infections and bacteria in the urinary tract.

However, it is important to try and select fresh cranberries for full health benefits.

 

With an array of health benefits, you could try adding them to teas, juices, sources, jam and chutneys.

Gout

Gout is an inflammatory disease, a form of acute arthritis, which is caused by excess uric acid in the bloodstream. Uric acid forms uric acid crystals in the joints, and this can lead to serious complications, if left untreated. 

Dietary modifications are imperative in order to avoid an attack. 

 

Plant-based foods are a good choice, but make sure you choose anti-inflammatory fruits and vegetables such as:


 

  • Spinach 

  • Kale

  • Collards

  • Avocado 

  • Lettuce 

  • Sweet potatoes 

  • Cabbage 

  • Blueberries 

  • Apples

  • Pineapple

Certain supplements and oils can also help alleviate symptoms, such as Magnesium oil.

 

Make sure you hydrate your body with good filtered water, and herb teas such as green tea.

Avoid alcohol, and reduce coffee and stimulants that induce an attack of gout.
